Yesterday, members of the Redding Tai Chi Meditation Garden Board met at Enterprise Park with our contractor, David Ledford of Ledford Concrete Services, and Dan Williams, Parks and Facilities Manager for the City of Redding, to begin outlining the placement of our future Tai Chi court.

David established a center point and used green spray paint to mark a circle with a 60-foot diameter. The planned court will be set back approximately 30 feet from the parking lot.

We also discussed preparing the site by leveling the ground and removing 6–8 inches of topsoil to reach the hardpan beneath. We hope to complete this work soon so that, when the winter rains arrive, we can observe how water drains from the area before construction proceeds.

An ADA-compliant paved approach was also marked out to provide access from the parking lot to the Tai Chi court.

Preparing the Site

For years, the City has used this area to store green waste, which is typically burned during the winter months. Dan Williams advised us that the existing green waste is scheduled to be burned off beginning in November, when seasonal burning is permitted. The City has also identified a new location for this material.

Moving the green waste storage area and building the Tai Chi court will help improve the appearance of this part of Enterprise Park while creating new recreational opportunities for the public.

Volunteers Needed for Site Cleanup

Unfortunately, years of green waste storage have also left a considerable amount of plastic and other trash scattered around the site. Before construction begins, we would like to clean up as much of this debris as possible.

We plan to begin cleanup efforts on Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m., following our regular Tai Chi practice. We welcome anyone who can spare some time to help.

Please bring sturdy shoes and heavy-duty gloves. Trash bags will be provided.

Every helping hand will make a difference as we prepare the site for the Redding Tai Chi Meditation Garden. Thank you for supporting this community project!
